History

1955 The Catholic Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (C I C M) aimed  to cultivate native people to become talented and qualified. Education is the basic foundation. They selected Taipei City, country and Taichung City where they founded kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.

1971 They began to develop regional special education. This fostered the under developed and poor, orphanages, labor service and social welfare.

1982 The C I C M began to transfer works to the dioceses and local churches.This was a six year experimental transfer.

1988 On July 28,1988, a formal contract was signed with the Taipei Archdiocese to finish the transfer. Local churches took over and managed.

2001 In view of the differences between the educational and social welfare enterprises, The Kuang Jen Social Welfare Foundation was formally founded in 2001 to take over the business of Special Education and Social Services.

Aim of service

In the bible Jesus says:〝I tell you, indeed, wherever you did this for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did it for me. 〞 Matthew 25:40

This foundation is to proclaim the spirit of God’s encompassing love for all including the weak brothers and sisters and also to do many social welfare activities.

Contents of service

  1. Early childhood intervention for physically and mentally retarded.
  2. Vocational training for mentally retarded adults Professional counselling and sheltered workshops.
  3. Provide lodging for mentally retarded adults.
  4. Provide sheltered workshop service for mentally retarded and community work supervision.
